Acknowledgements
The conventions, PVIs and other documents collected within the present volume are the visi-
ble products of considerable planning and effort, difficult negotiations, laborious attention to
detail, a willingness to compromise and an awareness of practicalities. Their common char-
acteristic is a perception by all participants that corporate responsibility is an opportunity, not
a threat. This compilation would not have arisen without the participants' commitment to the
task, dedicated enthusiasm in questioning preconceived boundaries and concerted efforts at
refining our understanding of the nature and propriety of commercial roles and responsibil-
ities. This volume is without exception a tribute to their achievements and I hope they find
it provocatively useful in pursuing their own particular agendas and activities.
