Preface
Consumer law is an international subject, as consumers in developed and
developing countries share common concerns as well as some which are
unique to their particular markets. This is evidenced by the strength of the
International Association of Consumer Law (http://www.iaclaw.org/) of
which Geraint Howells, Iain Ramsay and Thomas Wilhelmsson are board
members. It is frequently studied by students in a comparative perspective and
policy-makers reviewing the law also normally take this international perspec-
tive. Thus we hope this work will be useful for both pedagogical and practical
policy-making purposes.
Bringing together such a strong team of contributors has been a wonderful
experience and the final product reflects the quality and hard work of all those
involved. We would like to thank David Kraft for his editorial work, as well
as the publishers. Geraint Howells would like to acknowledge the support of
the Law Schools of Lancaster and Manchester Universities and Thomas
Wilhelmsson the support of the Centre of Excellence in Foundations of
European Law and Polity of Helsinki University.
