Abstract/Description:

The purpose of the Japanese Patent Act is stipulated as follows: “The purpose of this Act is, through promoting the protection and the utilization of inventions, to encourage inventions, and thereby to contribute to the development of industry” (Article 1 of the Act). I would like to suggest what the patent system should be like in order “to contribute to the development of industry” after organizing issues from an economics perspective in this chapter.
