EDITORS
Frank Maes
Frank Maes is Professor in the Department of Public International Law at
the Faculty of Law of Ghent University (Belgium) and Director of
`research' in the Maritime Institute of the same department. He teaches
inter alia international and European environmental law, environmental
legislation and protections of oceans and seas. His publications are
mainly in the field of marine environmental law and policy. His research
interests are the protection of the marine environment, fisheries, shipping,
maritime spatial planning, climate change and environmental governance.
An Cliquet
An Cliquet is a Law Professor at Ghent University in Belgium. She
teaches several courses on international and European biodiversity law.
Her research is situated in the field of international, European and
national biodiversity law and policy. Specific fields of interests in her
research are European nature conservation law, gender and biodiversity,
marine nature conservation, ecological restoration, ecological refugees,
REDD+ and a rights-based approach to conservation of protected areas.
Willemien du Plessis
Willemien du Plessis is a Professor at the Faculty of Law, North-West
University (Potchefstroom Campus), South Africa where she is currently
the Director of the Research Unit `Development in the South African
Constitutional State'. She is also co-chair of the Research Committee of
the IUCN Academy of Environmental Law. She serves on the editorial
board of various journals and publishes in national and international
journals. She teaches environmental law, land law and legal history. Her
research interests are environmental law and land law.
