Acknowledgements
This book is the result of a selection of updated papers that were
presented at the Eighth IUCN Academy of Environmental Law
(IUCNAEL) Colloquium in Ghent (Belgium) from 14 to 17 September
2010 on the topic of `Linkages between biodiversity and climate
change'.1
The authors thank the secretariat of IUCNAEL, its Director and Chair,
the members of the Governing Board, as well as the more than 150
presenters, the chairs of the 34 panels and the 47 authors who subse-
quently submitted papers for this publication, all of them contributing to
the success of the Colloquium. We are grateful for the support of the
IUCN Commission on Environmental Law, the then chair, Sheila Abed,
and Alejandro Iza, Head of the IUCN Environmental Law Programme
and the Director of the IUCN Environmental Law Center.
The organization of this Colloquium would not have been possible
without the institutional and financial support of Ghent University, in
particular its Vice Chancellor, Professor Paul Van Cauwenberge, the Law
School of Ghent University and its Dean, Piet Taelman, the City of
Ghent, the Flemish Department of Foreign Affairs and the United
