Abstract/Description:
In the European Union with its focus on the single market, the question of unification of national legal systems is on the agenda. As is commonly known, the progress of unification has reached different stages. Partly, common law has been established; partly the efforts rather followed the path of harmonization of national laws, at least for the time being. As regards general civil law, which more than any other legal field has developed out of national traditions of EU Member States, the European Commission currently encourages the elaboration of transnational principles by legal scholars which shall lead to the creation of a European Contract Law.
