Abstract/Description:
In order to effectively fight money laundering governments need to be able to distinguish healthy financial transactions from those transactions that hide a profitable criminal activity. Financial intelligence is therefore crucial for the law enforcement authorities. Financial intelligence is the result of an information collection and analysis process. We make use of information flow theories to analyze the process of intelligence gathering in the current AML frameworks. Further, we discuss several changes that could increase the efficiency of these information flow systems.
