I.
The 9th Annual Conference of the Academic Society for Competition
Law (ASCOLA) was held between 26 June and 28 June 2014 in Warsaw
(Poland). On behalf of ASCOLA, the Conference was organized by the
Centre for Antitrust and Regulatory Studies (CARS), Faculty of Manage-
ment, University of Warsaw (UW). The purpose of the Conference was to
discuss the most important, current and interesting aspects of procedural
fairness in competition law proceedings.

Welcome

The opening session was chaired by Professor Tadeusz Skoczny (Director
of CARS, Faculty of Management, UW), who welcomed all of the guests
and conference participants gathered there. He specifically greeted and
thanked the Dean of the Faculty of Management, Professor Jan Turyna
(Faculty of Management, UW) and the Deputy Rector of the University
of Warsaw, Professor Alojzy Z. Nowak (Faculty of Management, UW).
He also thanked the sponsors of the Conference, PKO Bank Polski S.A.
and the Foundation of the Polish National Bank. Subsequently, Professor
Skoczny warmly welcomed the President of the Polish Competition
Authority, Mr Adam Jasser, the key speaker, Professor Woulter Wils
(Hearing Officer, European Commission, King's College London), the
ASCOLA Chair, Professor Paul Nihoul (University of Louvain, Bel-
gium), Mrs Teresa Flemming-Kulesza (Judge of the Polish Supreme
Court, Chair of the Public Law Chamber) and two former Presidents of
the Polish Competition Authority, Professor Anna Fornalczyk (COM-
PER) and Professor Andrzej Sopocko (Faculty of Management, UW).
