Author(s): Skinner, Ian
Number of pages: 23
Abstract/Description:
This chapter provides an overview of EU policy that aims to mitigate transport’s greenhouse gas emissions. It begins by outlining the challenges facing the EU’s transport sector in this respect. This is followed by three sections that provide an overview of the development and implementation of relevant EU policies focusing on, in turn, the energy used by transport, the efficiency of vehicles and the way in which transport is used. The chapter concludes by arguing that the EU’s vehicle efficiency policies have been broadly successful, whereas challenges remain in relation in decarbonizing energy and in influencing transport use.
