Abstract/Description:
We provide an analytical overview of the Asia-Pacific region’s experience with climate change mitigation measures in the buildings sector. Economic instruments, legal and regulatory processes, and information programs all form important elements of the region’s strategy to deal with energy use and GHG emissions. We describe the different types of policy instruments and processes in place for the buildings sector in the Asia-Pacific region, focusing on three case studies – Japan, Singapore and Thailand. We then analyze some of the most pertinent issues surrounding this distinct sphere of policy making, such as costs and benefits, policy flexibility, and political feasibility and alignment.
