Abstract/Description:
Brazil has evolved rapidly in the control of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions with the approval of the emission reduction targets in the National Policy on Climate Change. Such goals have been successfully achieved, particularly in deforestation control, although mitigation efforts beyond 2020 will no longer be as focused on land-use initiatives. Brazil, as this chapter shows, can harvest important and numerous low cost mitigation options in agriculture, energy and in industrial sources. To accomplish that, significant changes in the governance structure of climate policies are urgently requested as well as the development of appropriate economic analysis and instruments.
