This chapter reviews the law and policy regime on climate change mitigation in South Africa. It first discusses the national climate change mitigation strategy and the legislative, constitutional and common responsibility principles involved, as well as carbon trading and taxation measures. In addition, the contribution provides an overview of climate change litigation in South Africa and discusses sectorial mitigation measures in, among others, the renewable energy sector, the construction and transport sector and the waste and water management sector.
