Acknowledgements
The editors of this volume gratefully acknowledge the generous support
we have received from the French Agence Nationale de la Recherche,
which supported the editors' research in France and the United States
from 2007 to 2015 and also helped to support the conference series that
resulted in the publication of this volume. We also acknowledge the gener-
ous support of the Fulbright Foundation, the Centre Marc Bloch of the
Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) and the Humboldt
Universitaet in Berlin, as well as the University of Illinois College of Law.
The Fulbright Foundation and the CNRS facilitated a year-long research
stay in France for Jacqueline Ross, while the Centre Marc Bloch and the
University of Illinois College of Law hosted the workshop series and con-
ferences that culminated in the chapters contained in this volume. We are
