Abstract/Description:
In the introductory chapter we explained that this book is the result of a conference that was held in May 2015 in Beijing, organized by the School of Law and Economics (SLE) at the China University of Political Science and Law. That conference constituted a follow-up to three earlier conferences held in Beijing in 2012, 2013 and 2014, on economics and regulation in China, the role of law and regulation in sustaining financial markets, and market integration and implications for regulatory reform, respectively. The 2015 conference also marked the 10-year anniversary of SLE. This book contains several contributions that examine how the regulatory state and regulatory reform could help to unleash the economic forces of China to foster more sustainable economic growth and prosperity and to set out a reform agenda in selected legal areas. These areas include financial, administrative and environmental law and regulation, as well as regulation of contracts. This is particularly important considering that the Chinese government recently launched a national project to comprehensively deepen its regulatory reform that only sets out general principles.
