Preface
The chapters of this book are based on contributions made by their
authors to an academic conference organized by the Maastricht Centre
for European Law, at Maastricht University. The conference was made
possible by the funding provided by the European Commission's Jean
Monnet Programme for our project Flexibility or Disintegration? Differ-
entiation of the Rights and Obligations of the EU States after the Lisbon
Treaty and the Euro Crisis (FLEXIDIS). In addition to the European
Commission, thanks are owed to the contributors for their commitment to
this publication project. Special thanks go to Marina Jodogne, who
provided invaluable assistance through her able and patient work in the
formatting and editing of the book, as well as to Carol Ní Ghiollarnáth
for her thorough and expert language revision of the book. We would
also like to express our gratitude to Gloria Bozyigit, student-assistant at
