Abstract/Description:
Iris Goldner Lang traces the development of EU food law. Its earlier days involved a food safety approach, shaped by the need to respond quickly to food safety crises of the past, especially BSE/vCJD or ‘mad cow’ disease. Contemporary concerns in EU food law include antimicrobial resistance and growing rates of obesity and nutrition-related disease. Here, as Goldner Lang highlights, the EU’s law and policy is insufficiently responsive to public health concerns.
