Abstract/Description:

In the information society, in particular in the context of e-commerce, personal data plays a central role. Two different legal concepts, both fundamental rights, are data protection and privacy. The national legislation based on Directive 95/46 is still in force, but it will be replaced by the General Data Protection Regulation, published in Spring 2016. Tijmen Wisman (Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam) covers this broad area, including data breach notification, cookies, behavioural targetting and data subject rights.
