Abstract/Description:

One of the ways in which the social dimension of EU integration is managed is through devices that displace collective-democratic self-determination in favour of ‘soft’ forms of coordination that favour objective standards over subjective choices. One of the key theorisations that capture the forms of this substitution is Actor-Network Theory. This contribution addresses the more subtle forms of the displacements that such devices achieve in EU thinking, mainly in the use of indicators, and the reorganisation of the field of action and intervention they imply. Keywords: indicators, Actor-Network theory, governance
