Abstract/Description:
Until recently, consumer protection and fundamental rights have been treated as separate legal fields. Over the last decade, however, consumer protection has increasingly been discussed in the context of human rights, owing also to its inclusion in the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union as a prominent EU objective. This chapter explores the conceptualization of consumer protection as a human right. Moreover, it analyses how EU consumer law and policy are likely to be influenced by recent innovations in international law and by established constitutional rights.
