Abstract/Description:
This chapter examines the various barriers that consumers face to accessing justice in respect of consumer disputes. Addressing these barriers is an important part of developing an effective legal framework for the protection of consumers. There is little point in having a set of substantive consumer laws if those laws are inaccessible in practice. The chapter identifies the barriers that prevent consumers from obtaining redress and considers a range of strategies for improving consumers’ access to justice.
