Preface
In 2016 the International Association for the Advancement of Teaching
and Research of Intellectual Property (ATRIP) held its 35th congress at
the Jagellonian University, in Krakow, Poland. Dr Anna Tischner was
the local organiser of that congress and I record here my thanks to her for
her diligence and skills in making that a successful event. The theme of the
Krakow congress was `Intellectual Property as Functional Pluralism: The
Parameters, Challenges and Opportunities of Variation'. The chapters in
this volume develop that theme. In this volume there are six authors from
Polish universities. The other authors come from around the globe, reflect-
ing the diversity that is core to the values and purposes of ATRIP. I thank
all of the authors who have contributed to this volume and Alexandra
Moore, graduating from Victoria University of Wellington Law School in
2019, for her research assistance.
It is an honour to have served as ATRIP's president and to edit this
volume on its behalf.
