Acknowledgements
The support of the European Union (EU) funded Horizon 2020 project
Sustainable Market Actors for Responsible Trade (SMART) (smart.uio.no)
under Grant Agreement No 693642 is gratefully acknowledged here. The
SMART consortium consists of 25 academic institutions and over 70 research-
ers based around the world: see www.smart.uio.no/. For our preliminary
findings in the report to the Commission provided under the grant, see the
SMART deliverable report `Report on international regulatory complexity of
EU trade and investment', available at www.smart.uio.no/publications/reports/
d2.2-smart-report-on-international-complexity.pdf. This edited collection is
informed by some SMART research, but does not necessarily reflect the views
of other project participants or the EU institutions.
We owe particular thanks to the SMART project leader, Professor Beate
Sjåfjell, for her remarkable enthusiasm, encouragement and generosity; and
the SMART project administrator, Linda Gulli, for her exceptional ongoing
support and kindness. Without them and numerous other active SMART par-
ticipants at various gatherings, this book project would not have been possible.
