Yvonne Baatz previously practised as a solicitor specialising in shipping litigation. She
then lectured at the University of Southampton where she was Director of the Institute
of Maritime Law from 2003 to 2006. In 2007 she became Professor of Maritime Law.
Since 2018 she has been a professor at the Centre for Commercial Law Studies, Queen
Mary, University of London. She has published widely in the fields of carriage of
goods by sea, conflict of laws and marine insurance.
Simon Baughen was appointed as Professor of Shipping Law at Swansea University in
September 2013 (previously Reader at the University of Bristol Law School). He
studied law at Oxford and practised in maritime law for several years before joining
academia. His research interests lie mainly in the field of shipping law, maritime
pollution, and the environmental and human rights implications of the activities of
multinational corporations in the developing world.
Aldo Chircop is Professor of Law and Canada Research Chair in Maritime Law and
Policy (Tier I) at the Schulich School of Law, Dalhousie University, Canada. His
current maritime research concerns polar shipping, decarbonisation of shipping,
autonomous shipping, jurisdiction over ships, International Maritime Organization
(IMO) governance, and maritime regulation theory and strategy.
Jason Chuah is Professor of Commercial and Maritime Law and Head of Department
at City, University of London. He is also Guest Professor at the University of
Gothenburg, Sweden and chairs the London Universities Maritime Law and Policy
