Abstract/Description:

FinTech innovations lie at the intersection of finance and technology. They run on software and business methods that rely on using computers and related systems in the provision of financial products and services. The patentability of these computer-implemented inventions has been under great scrutiny in many countries, and many patent applications for computer-implemented inventions have been rejected as containing claims that relate to unpatentable subject matters. This chapter examines key issues in patentability of FinTech inventions by providing an overview of the FinTech patent landscape and patent eligibility legislation and jurisprudence in the US, Europe and Singapore. It also examines key issues in the patentability of blockchain technologies.
