Acknowledgements
This book is the result of the work conducted within the Academic Research
Network on Agencification of EU Executive Governance (TARN). TARN
was set up in 2015 by senior researchers from different academic institutions
across the EU, all of whom have a long record in researching EU agencifica-
tion. One of the specific aims of TARN is to promote targeted research on the
as yet underdeveloped area of study of EU agencies' external action and bring
together researchers working on the topic to foster possible synergies. This
book brings together the first results of this initiative and is the first edited
book (in English or otherwise) dedicated to the external relations of EU agen-
cies. We would like to thank our colleagues at Edward Elgar - in particular,
Stephanie Tytherleigh - for their friendly and professional attitude during the
process of writing and the publication of this book.
