Publisher: Edward Elgar Publishing
Section: Chapter 11
Section Title: Interpretive issues in researching law and religion
Author(s): Travers, Max; Ezzy, Doug
Number of pages: 14
Abstract/Description:
This chapter begins the section on sociological approaches by explaining the approach of interpretive sociologists in studying law and religion, through use of ethnographic methods, to a readership in legal studies that may be unfamiliar with these methods. The chapter will also seek to demonstrate that much can be learnt about religions through studying legal processes – both those inside religions, and those that arise in the interactions or encounters between religions and the State.
