Section Title: Diversity in death: a case study of a Muslim cemetery project in Quebec
Author(s): Dabby, Dia; Beaman, Lori G.
Number of pages: 18
Abstract/Description:
This chapter sits at the confluence of law, geography and sociology. It explores a case study of an ultimately unsuccessful proposal for a Muslim cemetery in rural Quebec. By focusing upon spatial characteristics in its analysis to explore the inherent relationship between law and land, the chapter examines what can be gleaned from localized conversations about religious diversity, death and social planning. It is contended that this focus on everyday, lived religion provides a means to discuss religious diversity and law in diverse societies.
