Abstract/Description:

This chapter provides commentary on art. 37 of the CRC on the right to be free from torture and other cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment or punishment, the prohibition of the imposition of capital punishment and life imprisonment without the possibility for parole on children and the procedural rights of children when deprived of their liberty. General obligations are covered, as are obligations specifically related to various forms of ill-treatment in detention and deprivation of liberty.
