Abstract/Description:
Directive 2001/29/EC on copyright in the information society was implemented in Lithuania by Law of 5 March 2003, followed by major amendments in 2006 and 2011. The implementation process was accompanied by wide debates whose probable cause was a failure to agree on the remuneration systems regarding reproduction for private use and reprography which was solved only at the end of 2016. Nevertheless, the debates continue, albeit with declining intensity, and now extend also to liability of internet service providers. As such, the implementation of the Directive into the Lithuanian copyright law is an ongoing process and unlikely to be completed as technologies develop further and require answers from the courts which will shape the law in one way or another.
