Preface
This volume contains 11 cutting-edge essays by leading legal scholars and
philosophers to explore the transformations of jurisprudence in a globalized
world. These essays offer a wide variety of views and stimulating debate on
jurisprudence's three central issues: meta-jurisprudential questions about
modifications of legal methodological approaches spurred by globalization,
analytical inquiries about the concept of law in a globalized context and the
conceptual tools required to account for putative new forms of legal phe-
nomena, and normative or politico-moral issues relating to the legitimacy and
democratic character of these legal orders. The Introduction sets the stage by
justifying this division and providing a summary of the chapters. We hope that
this volume helps to shape the agenda for future research in transnational and
global legal theory.
This project would not have been possible without the support of Research
Project `Filosofía del Derecho Contemporánea' of Grupo de Investigaciones
Sociales y Jurídicas del Programa de Derecho of Fundación Universitaria
Tecnológico Comfenalco-Cartagena. I would like to thank the Universidad de
Cartagena and the Fundación Universitaria Tecnológico Comfenalco-Cartagena
in Cartagena de Indias (Colombia) for funding and hosting a meeting to discuss
the papers. Yezid Carrillo, Sally Barón, María Fernanda Nova, Luis Fernando
Bermeo, Claudia Ibañez, and Yucelis Garrido deserve special mention for
their logistical support. In addition to the contributors, Brian Collins, Carlos
Galvez, Jose Luis García Guerrero, Matthias Goldmann, Lando Kirchmair,
Ralf Michaels, Catherine Valcke, ...
